Anxiety
Everybody experiences anxiety from time to time. Generally, it helps us to adequately prepare for and respond to the variety of challenging situations that we experience in our day-to-day life (e.g., preparing for an important presentation, having a difficult conversation with your spouse, driving during a snowstorm).

Components of Anxiety
The experience of anxiety involves both mental and physical components.

Mental: Excessive worry, racing thoughts, feeling on edge or restless, difficulty concentrating

Physical: Muscle tension, racing heart, sweating, shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea
Anxiety Disorders
When anxiety becomes overwhelming, constant, or starts to interfere with your daily life this can be a sign of an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders are classified into different types based on their symptoms.

Social Anxiety Disorder: Social Anxiety is characterized by intense fear of social situations, particularly the fear of being judged or embarrassed. People with social anxiety often avoid social interactions or experience significant distress in them.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder: Generalized Anxiety involves excessive, uncontrollable worry about a variety of everyday things. People with generalized anxiety often identify as “worriers” and report feeling anxious much of the time.

Panic Disorder: Panic Attacks involve sudden episodes of fear and intense physical symptoms of anxiety. People with panic sometimes avoiding exercise, socializing, or even leaving the house altogether in an attempt to avoid experiencing additional attacks.

Phobias: a Specific Phobia is an intense fear of specific object (e.g., needles), situation (e.g., flying), or animal (e.g., dogs).
